ParticipantThis looks very promising. Thanks for sharing Davide. Has consideration been given for asthmatics wearing the mask? Some asthmatics have trouble breathing through masks. Some asthmatics that I have spoken to have found that a single valve on a standard P2 mask is sufficient. Other people I’ve spoken to said that they need two valves to breathe comfortably.

ParticipantAlso, I haven’t seen a P2 mask that wasn’t made of cloth before. What happens in hot weather? One of the problems with fabric masks (both p2 masks and surgical masks) is that in hot or humid weather the mask becomes damp and you have to throw it out, reducing the usable lifespan of the mask from 6 hours (for surgical masks) or 12 hours (for high quality p2 masks) to as little as 30 minutes. (lifespan timeframes can vary per manufacturer btw)

ParticipantI have successfully printed the Copper mask in TPU and it fits amazingly well. I am working with a seamstress now to create cloth covers to provide face contact sealing and provide an additional barrier to the mask itself so it can be sterilized using a dip peroxide solution. I am setting up a testing rig to see how many times it can be dipped in solution before it starts degrading. I realize there are actual filaments that are bio specialized, but given the crisis, I am sure that TPU will work just fine for most. Hoping to crank out about 4-5 masks a day. Maybe I can get another printer online and do more. We will see.

ParticipantDear Mr. Davide, I would like to congratulate you for the initiative, my name is Carlos Augusto Shiguihara, it is a pleasure to be able to speak here. I am Brazilian, I live in a state called Mato Grosso, and here we have the situation in expansion, but it seems to me under control at the moment, we are all taking care of ourselves and I wish we are well at that moment. I have in my radiology clinic additive manufacturing equipment, whether in FDM or DLP and I would like to check the possibility of assisting and if you can send us the project or even the part of the project that can be printed, I believe that we are able to do something in for Brazil. Sincerely, Carlos Augusto Shiguihara

ParticipantI have printed version 5 of the Nanohack mask. Any updates on how this should be glued in places like the chin strap and nose area would be gratefully received. Also are there additional fine filters to add to this I.e. HEPA grade – if so what is a good source to locate this?

ParticipantI am going to start a Gofundme for a 3d printer to create either the masks or valves I want to give an accurate depiction of what I will be doing. How big of a printer will the mask require? Any idea how many masks you can make from one spool of filament?
